The ANC Youth League(ANCYL) conference in Mangaung Region descended into chaos over the weekend.
This is after one of its prominent leaders Tseletsele Stalin allegedly disrupted the registration process on Saturday on the instructions of the former chairperson of the Youth League and the province’s MEC for the Department of Economic, Small business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) Makalo Mohale.
When Africa News Global contacted Tseletsele, he did not confirm nor deny the allegations levelled against him but he, however, said he has since left the conference venue.
“I left for Jagersfontein last night before registrations of delegates”, Stalin added
At the same time, the former provincial chairperson of the youth league in the province Makalo Mohale distanced himself from the allegations, saying he was no longer a member of the youth league and that he knew nothing about the events of the conference.
“I am no longer leading the ANC youth league,” Makalo said.
On the issue of whether he used Stalin to collapse the conference because those who supported him did not have numbers.
The MEC reiterated his position adding that those who were leveling allegations of sabotage must provide evidence.
“Can they explain how did I collapse it?
I am not aware of the chaos you are referring to. You can give me the details. I am not leading any “cabal”. Can they perhaps give details of this allegation?,” the MEC added.
Meanwhile, the regional convenor, Thabo Mohale confirmed that he received a report of what had taken place at the conference and further said they had instituted an internal investigation.
“I can, however, confirm I have received reports regarding events that took place and we instituted internal investigations and we are highly considering involving the SAPS because the preliminary report shows a great involvement of leaders of the ANC in these disruptions (both at regional and provincial level).
The factions of the ANC have a direct influence on all of these and are even sponsoring the disruption of the regional congress, so far the involvement of the “N8 faction” has been mentioned quite a few times.
We have just arrived at the congress venue to receive reports on security matters. Then an assessment will be made about we how should proceed,” Mohale said.
The majority of delegates who were at the conference said the deployees needed to implement the directives of all annual general meetings(AGM) packages as it was listed in all Mangaung branches.
