Bonginkosi Khanyile’s case postponed again

By: ANG Reporter

The trial of Patriotic Alliance (PA) member and former “Fees Must Fall” activist Bonginkosi Khanyile regarding his alleged involvement in the deadly July unrest of 2021 has been postponed once again.

Khanyile appeared in the Durban Regional Court on Friday to answer to charges of incitement to commit public violence, as well as charges of contravention of the Disaster Management Act, relating to the acts of looting and violence that took place in KwaZulu-Natal in July 2021. He is out on on R5 000 bail in September last year.

On Friday, the case was postponed to 30 September because Khanyile had changed the legal team and the newly appointed legal team had to familiarize itself with the legal documents before the trial can resume.

The State alleges that between July 8 and July 11, 2021, at or near Warwick Avenue in Durban, Khanyile unlawfully and intentionally incited, instigated, commanded or procured people unknown to the State to commit public violence.

Khanyile has denied guilt arguing that the case against him is politically motivated.
