BREAKING NEWS: Beaufort West mayor and speaker arrested

By: Sello Theletsane

The mayor of Beaufort West in the Western Cape, along with the speaker and another employee, has been arrested on allegations of corruption.

According to sources, the arrests relate to a 2019 tender for the development of roads to be tarred in the Mervewille area which falls under the Beaufort West Municipality.

It is alleged that the then Manager of Infrastructure Services signed it off and R650 000-00 was paid to the successful bidder.

After the money was paid, the municipality allegedly realized that no progress report was submitted, and during a visit, it became apparent that the money was paid, but zero work had been done.

“They eventually got suspicious and then realized that the consultant of the project resides in Kwa Mandlenkosi. When they visited the place, they found out that it was the residence of Mr. Hangana, the speaker of the District Municipality. After an investigation, they realized that the money was shared between Quinton Louw- current Mayor of Beaufort West, Noel Constable – the then Mayor of Beaufort West, and now the Speaker of Beaufort West Municipality” said a source.

Africa News Global has been reliably informed that the three should be appearing at the Beaufort West Magistrates Court today.
