Irvin Jim re-elected as NUMSA’s general secretary

Irvin Jim has been elected unopposed as the general secretary of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) at the union’s first day of its national conference on Wednesday.

More than one thousand delegates have travelled from different parts of the country to participate in the conference which was delayed after the court ruled that the union hold the conference in line with its constitution.

In a statement, the union said it was pleased to announce that workers had officially elected a new leadership to take the union forward and that all candidates were nominated unopposed by all regions.

The leadership is as follows:

1. Irvin Jim has been elected the General Secretary

2. Mbuso Ngubane the KZN regional secretary has been elected the Deputy General Secretary

3. Andrew Chirwa has been elected the President

4. Mac Chavalala the Hlanganani Regional Chairperson has been elected the 1st Deputy President

5. Puleng Phaka the Northern Cape Chairperson has been elected the 2nd Deputy President

6. Mphumzi Maqungo has been elected as the National Treasurer

“We wish all of them well in their term as leaders of the union. We have no doubt that they will build and defend all NUMSA the organisation and all its members.”
