Residents across Gauteng province will experience water cuts from Friday 3 to 4 June, according to Rand Water.
The entity has planned a water outage this weekend due to a system upgrade in the Waterval, Weltevreden, and Roodepoort reservoirs.
Spokesperson Eddie Singo says the disruptions will last for 24 hours starting on Friday at 6 am.
Rand Water said it is a phased approach meant to increase water supply capacity across Johannesburg, and other areas ahead of 2024.
Why 2024? Singo said they are implementing the outcomes of a study conducted 15 years ago which showed that water demands would increase drastically between 2023 – 2024.
“By 2024 we are going to see the demand outstripping the supply. We have therefore planned to respond to that growing demand. To ensure that we have enough flexibility,” Singo said.
The period will allow Rand Water an opportunity to cross-connect the newly constructed pipeline to the existing pipeline at Randjesfontein.
Residents should expect water cut in areas such as the Randburg, Roodepoort, and certain areas in Soweto.
Rand Water has scheduled the planned maintenance work at Vereeniging Water Treatment Plant and Weltevreden on 3 June 2022 and will affect the Eikenhof system.
